Partner with Hillside Missions Organization

Make Your Mark

We are typically presented with very few opportunities in which we can be involved in something that will leave a legacy of eternal consequence.  God, in His grace and mercy, has provided us with that opportunity.  We are able to do great things because He is a great God.

We would like to invite you to participate with us in this work by making a tax deductible donation to Hillside Missions Organization.  By making a donation, you will be partnering with us to:

  • Operate a School of Missions Mobilization in Mexico that will train and send teams of Latin Americans to do missions among unreached people groups
  • Operate a missions training internship program at our headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, USA.
  • Continue to support and manage long-term projects in areas of the world where people have no access to the Gospel or Christian community.
  • Conduct community development and humanitarian aid projects in strategic areas.

Have questions or concerns?  Please feel free to call or email.  We love to share our vision and ideas with others.  Our phone number is 860-582-7700.  The email address is hillside@reachthenations.org .

What can I do to reach the unreached?

And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. Mark 13:10

You can pray for missionaries serving the lost around the world. In many countries it is illegal for Christians to share their faith. Pray for protection and strong faith for the missionaries and native believers. Pray also for missions organizations around the world going on short-term trips to support full time missionaries.

Partner with other believers who have a vision of reaching the lost. Hillside Missions Organization takes several trips during the year to places where the Gospel is unknown i.e. China and the Middle East. This involves people with a heart for the unreached to go, a team of supporters helping with planning, fundraising, prayer support and a church family excited about missions.

Just as the church body has different parts, the area of missions has many different facets. While all of us may not have the time to spend a month or even a week in another country encouraging missionaries and reaching the lost, there are other contributions you can offer to the missions field that are vital for making it work. Providing the finances, volunteering at a fundraiser, or being a prayer partner for someone going on a missions trip are all essential roles that must be filled to have the Gospel being taken to all nations.

At Hillside Missions Organization the average cost for a person going to Mexico is $850 for a week. The cost for a trip to one of our 10/40 Window locations is around $2500 for two weeks. Hillside Missions does several fundraisers to help defray the cost for our missionaries. God desires to be glorified by the whole world. By being obedient by going or financially sending others, we give glory to God. Your help in sending us would be a great way to share the Gospel to people who have never heard it before. Giving resources would glorify God by making it happen.

What can my family do to reach the unreached?

Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. 1 Chronicles 16:23-24

God has a passion for the people of the world who do not yet know Him. God wants to have a personal relationship with everyone. He wants us to have that same fervor for the lost. There are plenty of ways to involve your entire family in reaching the unreached. We can work to foster the growth of that passion in our families. Here are some practical things that you can do to grow enthusiasm for missions.

Learning what God’s Word has to say about sharing our faith would give a good background for why we should concern ourselves with reaching the lost. Among many scriptures that deal with missions a serious study of Luke 9:1-6 and 1 Corinthians 9:16-23 would give an idea of how the disciples went about missions and how Paul felt about sharing the gospel.

As a family, take advantage of opportunities to participate in missions trips. At Hillside Missions Organization we take a Family Trip to Chihuahua, Mexico to introduce the entire family to world missions and generate interest among all ages for reaching the lost of the world. Short-term missions trips are an excellent way to grow a passion for unreached people and to work together as a family making a difference for God.

Displaying a large world map for prayer is another way your family can be involved in world missions on an everyday basis. With the map you can pinpoint specific countries for which you and your family can pray. Hillside Missions Organization focuses on the 10/40 Window, the part of the world stretching from 10 degrees to 40 degrees latitude north of the equator covering North Africa to East Asia. In this area, where there are about 60 countries, 90% of the world’s unreached people live. The book Operation World published recently in 2001 by Paternoster Lifestyle is a concise resource for studying countries with summaries of peoples, politics, religions, answers to prayers and challenges for prayer. Pray with your family for missionaries to be sent to people groups who don’t know Jesus. Also pray for missionaries you know and for specific people who live in unreached people groups. Make this part of a normal family routine – Prayer really works!

Donate time and money to missions efforts. Less than 2% of money raised for missions goes to support missionaries in the 10/40 Window. Projects to involve the whole family in world missions include a mission fund “piggy bank” in your house dedicated to missions. Explain to children what the money will be used for and why. Families could also budget a certain amount to give to specific missions projects and people groups. Another idea for the whole family to be involved is to do a small-scale fundraiser like collecting bottles and cans for the deposit money to donate to world missions. Be happy about giving! Don’t make it a painful chore. Stay informed as to how the projects you support have made a difference in people’s lives.

There are lots of great books with stories of missionaries and missionary families. Take time to read these books with your family. Read them out loud to younger children. Help children understand why people go to other countries to tell people about Jesus. Some exciting books to read with your family are: Bruchko, With Daring Faith, Gladys Aylward: The Adventure of a Lifetime, Jonathan Goforth: An Open Door in China, and Cameron Townsend: Good News in Every Language. Other books of interest for the whole family include biographies of great missionaries like Hudson Taylor and Brother Andrew. These types of stories help people to more personally relate with missions.

What can my church do to reach the unreached?

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed… 2 Timothy 4:17

If your church has a missions director, they are probably interested in hearing from you! There is always a need for more people to be involved in this type of ministry. From organizing missions trips, fundraising, educating your congregation about other countries, their religious beliefs and the state of Christianity in those countries, there is something for everyone to be involved with and your God-given talents can be used for missions.

In many church congregations missions education is not a regular part of the curriculum for Sunday School type classes. In an article titled Integrating Missions Education in the Church’s Established Curriculum Culture by Ron Forseth and Sarah Congdon (from Through the World Publishers and World Concern), they suggest missions education is central to the Church’s purpose but is often seen as a topic on the periphery. Educating your church about why world missions is important is a key step for igniting a desire for your church to be actively involved.

If your church does not have a person specifically devoted to world missions- why not YOU! Yes, you can be the person to get your church excited about missions!

Pray that God would direct you in how to best involve people from your church. Gathering a group of like-minded people for prayer and discussion would be a great first step. Hillside is a relatively small church and we have found that one great method for reaching the unreached is to partner with other full-time missionaries and support what they are doing.

How to develop interest in missions in your church.

I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord Almighty. Haggai 2:7

John Piper says, “Unless we take our starting point from the sovereign majesty of God and his ultimate allegiance to his own glory above all else, our missionary theology and strategy and motivation will become man-centered and will in the end degenerate into a powerless sentimentality” (‘A Pastors Role in World Missions’ Desiring God Ministries www.desiringGOD.org). We do not want churches to generate “powerless sentimentality” about missions. An understanding of what missions means to God and for the Church today is key. Educating your local congregation about world missions is a good first step in developing active interest.

When churches understand that there are billions of people who have not heard about God and people die everyday without ever hearing about Jesus it can be a startling fact. It is exciting to share that this is not a hopeless situation, but that your local community can help take the Gospel to these people in other countries. Partnering with already established missionaries may be a good way to start your local congregation in learning about what goes on in the life of a missionary today. Prayer and financial support are the most common ways of helping cross-cultural missionaries. There are several resources to find missionaries, but those in the 10/40 Window who are trying to reach the most unreached nations may be undercover and harder to locate even though they may need lots of support.

A tough question that often comes up in opposition to missions can be why worry about other countries and people so far away when there are people in our own neighborhoods who don’t know Jesus. This is what Hillside Missions Organization sees as the difference between missions and evangelization. We recognize both are significant to the Church.  We choose to define missions as bringing the Gospel to those who have no access to it and evangelism as sharing the Gospel with those who don’t know Jesus. This can be a fuzzy distinction but we hope that it can be topic of discussion and action for both aspects of spreading the Gospel.
