To be eligible you must be between 18 and 30 years
old with a desire to serve God. Participants must be teachable, motivated,
and committed to Jesus Christ.
The program is designed to provide practical experience in all aspects
of missions.
We coordinate, administer, and execute missions activities with
global impact.
We build, train, and travel with teams to areas of unreached
people groups. These team trips are usually between 7 and 14 days
long.
Our organization is also partnering with several other long-term missions
projects around the world.
What will an intern do?
Interns will be involved in team training, development
of new training materials, fundraising, budgeting, maintaining
and developing long-term missions contacts,
traveling with the teams, and strategic planning for
reaching unreached people groups. The internship
includes a short-term trip to an unreached area working
with missionaries on some exciting projects. We are
currently involved in projects that are allowing for people
to hear the gospel for the first time, presented in a
way that is native to their culture. We are very excited
about these projects. This is pioneering work! The program also
includes a ministerial
certification study program.
In general, interns work in the Missions Office
Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The day begins with a
time for devotions and prayer. Some time will be set aside each day
for study and experiential learning activities. The rest of the day
is spent working on specific tasks and projects assigned to each
participant. Tasks could include, but are not limited to, development
of creative informational materials related to unreached people
groups, coordinating fundraising activities, research related to
missions projects, preparation of presentations for church groups,
developing new contacts in unreached people group areas,
administrative office support, attending and assisting with strategic
planning meetings, and curriculum development support.
Interns will also be actively involved with the
establishment of the School of Missions Mobilization in
Matachi, Chihuahua, Mexico.
The school will train and send teams of church planters to
work among the least reached people of the world. This school, which
opened on March, 31st 2007, is designed to cause measurable increase of availability of the gospel for unreached people groups.
What about
housing?
Housing is provided by the program. The cost of
housing is already included in the price of the Internship. Some
internship participants are “adopted” by a member of
our church community. Those participants have a bedroom in that family’s home.
Other participants live in an apartment with other internship participants
of the same gender. It is
our hope that you will build close bonds with your host family or
housemates. We believe
that this will help to create a more comfortable, enriching experience with
Hillside.
What are the dates of the program?
The full program runs for 9 months. After the 9 month
program there is an optional 3 month externship overseas working
with one of our long-term projects. Typically, the program
follows a traditional university semester calendar, although the dates
of the internship can be flexible.
We also offer a summer program which lasts for three months.
The optional three month externship generally begins immediately
following the 9 month program.
What does the program cost?
The cost of the program is $350.00 per month. This includes
housing, meals, curriculum materials and supplies. We also ask
that interns raise support to help fund their short-term trips.
We also do some fundraising together with community events and
activities.
Can I visit the office?
Yes! We encourage all internship applicants and acceptant
participants to visit the office and church before a commitment is made to
the program. This also helps to ease some of the normal anxiety that
accompanies involvement in new activities and communities. It is
best to call ahead to arrange a visit.
